Mills shines as Spurs take title
The San Antonio Spurs have exacted sweet revenge over their 2013 conquerors the Miami Heat, sweeping aside their much-vaunted opponents with a dominant performance in the 2014 NBA Finals. While many commentators expected a repeat of the epic 2013 series which took NBA fans on a rollercoaster of emotions over seven pulsating games, the Spurs clearly didn't read the script and dispatched the Heat inside five games, leaving many pundits in awe at the disparity between the two best ball clubs in the league.

The Spurs secured their fifth Championship of the Tim Duncan and Gregg Popovich era, stretching back to 1999 when as a 23-year-old second year player Duncan hoisted the NBA trophy for the first time alongside future Naismith Hall-of-Famer David Robinson; the so-called “Twin Towers” enjoying further success in 2003. With the arrival Manu Ginobili and the emergence of Tony Parker as a genuine star, the Spurs captured two more Championships in 2005 and 2007; and now with a fifth title inside 15 years they take their place as one of the most successful franchises of the modern era alongside the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers. Along with veterans Duncan, Parker and Ginobili, Spurs coach Popovich was able to draw on the talents of emerging superstar Kawhi Leonard, who picked up the coveted Finals MVP Award with a dominant display, and Aussie Patty Mills, who turned in a clutch performance in series-clinching Game 5 with some pivotal points off the bench.

The Official NBA Finals Film will be released on DVD by Beyond Home Entertainment on 2 September 2014.
